Day Eight – The Clear Waters of Crete

The Old Town of Chania, once a major city-state of the mysterious Minoan Kingdom, was built upon the foundations of the Greek city of Kydonia.

Its importance led to several waves of occupation over the centuries. The winding streets of Old Town give way to Ottoman mosques, Minoan ruins and Byzantine churches. The Venetian harbor is home to ramparts, old dockyards and a 15th-century lighthouse.
