Super Bowl XIV
In recognition of Super Bowl weekend, I pulled one out of the archives. In the winter of 1979/80, I had the opportunity to work on a Super Bowl commercial for Crown Equipment Corporation. I worked with a fledgling young director from Orville, Ohio, by the name of Joe Sedelmaier. He later went on to earn a little more "fame" with commercials for Wendy's ("Where's The Beef") and Federal Express ("Fast Talking Man"). It also featured a young actor by the name of George Wendt (Yes, Norm from "Cheers!") He's the first driver. While the commercial ran in only 4 regional markets (L.A., Chicago, Milwaukee and Dayton), it did indeed run during the Super Bowl. In fact, the local affiliate (WHIO TV - Dayton) was so excited to have a local firm as a sponsor, they ran the commercial 4 times. I doubt very much that would happen today.
